Without urgent action, the declining wild salmon populations will have a devastating effect on British Columbia’s ecosystem and the future of people’s livelihoods. We must act now.
While the Liberals have planned a transition away from open net fish farms by 2025, shamefully, they are still considering applications for new licenses and reviewing the expansion of existing fish farms.
We can build a future with land-based closed containment aquaculture that doesn’t threaten our marine ecosystems. That is why I brought forward Bill C-258 to ensure a real transition plan that protects our oceans and supports workers and First Nations. Our coasts can’t wait!
