MP Barron calls out Liberals for cutting funding to build homes in Nanaimo
NANAIMO – Last week, NDP MP Lisa Marie Barron demanded that the government provide much needed funding to address Nanaimo-Ladysmith’s housing crisis. Barron’s call comes as the Liberals have cut Nanaimo’s “Reaching Home” funding by 60 per cent.
Nanaimo’s Mayor, Lenord Krog, also recently wrote to the Minister of Housing to ask for support, and to reinstate this needed funding as homelessness rises in the city.
Here is Barron’s question:
“The number of people unable to find an affordable place to live in Nanaimo-Ladysmith is staggering.
And what have the Liberals done? Cut the “reaching home” funding to Nanaimo by 60 per cent.
And the Conservative plan: Gut funding, and leave it all up to rich developers, who just so happen to be their biggest donors.
Nanaimo needs more support not less. The mayor is calling for federal support.
Will the Minister provide the funding required for truly affordable housing in Nanaimo?”
