MP Barron calls on Prime Minister to provide funding for local food bank
NANAIMO – On Wednesday, NDP MP Lisa Marie Barron (Nanaimo – Ladysmith) demanded answers from the Prime Minister on why the Liberals keep supporting rich grocery CEOs over people trying to keep up with high food costs.
Barron urged the government to provide immediate funding to Loaves and Fishes Community Food Bank Society in support of building a distribution centre to keep up with the food security needs of Vancouver Islanders.
MP Barron’s question is as follows:
“Sky-high food prices are driving people to food banks.
This didn’t happen overnight. It’s because consecutive Liberal and Conservative governments put the profits of rich grocery CEOs before people.
Visits to Nanaimo’s Loaves and Fishes Food Bank has increased 44 per cent in just 6 months.
Loaves and Fishes is beyond capacity and requires federal support in building a distribution centre to keep up with demand.
Will the Prime Minister provide this funding so that people on Vancouver Island are not left to go hungry?”
