NDP MP Barron grills government for delaying housing funding to Nanaimo

NANAIMO – On Friday, NDP MP Lisa Marie Barron (Nanaimo-Ladysmith) called out the Liberal government for delaying urgently needed housing funding until 2025/2026. Barron says that people in Nanaimo-Ladysmith have been having an increasingly difficult time finding affordable homes, and that the government needs to be releasing the funding they promised in the fall economic statement right away.

The NDP will fight to get this funding available right away and for the amount to be increased in the next budget. Much more needs to be done, and the NDP is not done fighting.

Here is Barron’s question:

“People in Nanaimo-Ladysmith are struggling to find an affordable place to call home.

All the while the Liberals delay needed help. They’ve even put off the housing funding in the fall economic statement until 2025.

But, its not shocking since the Liberals and Conservatives have spent years putting people on the backburner, so that their rich friends can get richer off of housing.

People need homes now, not in two years. So, will the Liberals immediately release the promised funding to build affordable homes?”
