NDP MP Barron slams Liberal back-to-work attacks on Nanaimo port workers
NANAIMO – NDP MP for Nanaimo-Ladysmith Lisa Marie Barron made the following statement in response to the Liberal government overriding union rights to force binding arbitration on workers at Nanaimo Ports:
“All workers should be able to fight for fair wages, safer workplaces and better working conditions. But the Liberals have made it clear they don’t have people’s backs.
Instead of standing with Nanaimo port workers, the Liberals are attacking workers’ rights and caving to big bosses. This doesn’t just impact B.C. port workers, but everyone in Nanaimo-Ladysmith. Back-to-work orders suppress wages for all workers so that their bosses get richer, while workers struggle to pay their mortgage, rent, and buy groceries.
I will keep fighting for the workers in our community alongside unions and the NDP. Unlike the Liberals who cave to big bosses or Pierre Poilievre and the Conservatives who hide when workers are being attacked. The best deal for all people in our communities comes when workers and bosses are at the bargaining table.”
