Stand with Ukraine

I condemn the terrible, unjustified, and unprovoked attacks on Ukraine by Russia over the last few days and President Putin’s flagrantly aggressive acts. I stand with the people of Ukraine. My NDP colleagues and I are urging the Liberal government to impose severe sanctions against Putin where he will feel it most. Putin’s aggressive actions need to be stopped. This includes sanctioning Canadian assets of Putin’s closest oligarchs and working with allied countries to work towards removing Russia from the SWIFT banking network.

Also of priority is supporting the thousands of Ukrainians who require urgent refuge in Canada. Again, my NDP colleagues and I have been fighting for visa-free access to Canada for Ukrainians. As this terrible situation unfolds, I will work alongside my colleagues to fight for Ukrainians to have a strong humanitarian plan. Ukrainians need our support now more than ever. It is essential that the Liberal government works alongside the United Nations and other important allies to implement these supports today.

If you're seeking a way to help Ukrainians, the Government of Canada will be matching individual donations to the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal from February 24 to March 18.
